What is Hydro Excavation?
You may have heard of non-destructive digging. This is an alternate term for hydro excavation, or digging holes and clearing soil by using pressurised water and vacuum.
Understanding hydro excavation and how it works:
We use hydro excavation that companies Nationwide (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Central Otago, Hamilton and Hawkes Bay) count on for projects that have confined or restricted spaces because it’s precision digging that doesn’t necessarily require a lot of excess space to complete the project. It’s quickly gaining popularity as a safe and fast way to uncover utility lines, cable and pipes without worrying about damaging them in the process.
We offer hydro excavation equipment for sale as well as for hire, and this allows you the flexibility to choose which option suits your needs the best. To start the hydro evacuation process, we look at existing utility maps and use equipment to further map out where the utilities are.
When we have this picture, we bring a hydro vac truck to your worksite and use a stream of highly pressurised water to break up the soil. Once we’ve broken the soil up with our hydro vac truck, we’ll use our sucker truck to funnel the excess soil and debris into a holding tank. You can either use this debris on your current project, recycle it or dispose of it.
The water can even work through frozen ground, and it’s a safe way to locate and uncover hidden or buried utility, gas or water lines, cables and pipes. We’ve used it for railroad maintenance projects in Christchurch, pipe and fitting replacements in Auckland and exploratory excavations in Wellington and all over New Zealand.
What are the benefits of Hydro Excavation in New Zealand?

Hydro Excavation eliminates the risk or strike of underground assets saving money in insurance or unnecessary repairs.
Can use it in restricted spaces – Sometimes, a job maybe in a tight area such as, behind a house, pilings, small road closures, narrow driveways and other spaces that are severely restricted. Our smaller Hydro Excavation Units are perfect for tighter spacers and can also Hydro up to 100mtrs.
